Informetrics, Scientometrics, Altmetrics

Isabelle Dorsch, Christine Meschede

The field Informetrics includes all quantitative methods of information science. Mathematical and statistical models as well as the application of such methods are discussed. There exist a variety of application areas: From the evaluation of information systems (e.g. by metrics like precision and recall) to the analysis of scientific communication (scientometrics). Scientific communication can thereby be analyzed in the context of formal publications and citations, but also regarding the attention in alternative media, like blogs or reference managers (altmetrics).
