Romoli

Jacopo Romoli is professor of semantics at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (Germany) and honorary associate professor at UCL in London. 

His research is interdisciplinary in nature and lies at the intersection between Linguistics, Philosophy of language and Psycholinguistics. In his work, he focuses on the study of meaning and how it interfaces with linguistic knowledge and general cognition. Romoli fully integrates theoretical and experimental perspectives, working on theoretical models and testing their fine-grained predictions with different psycholinguistic methods in different populations and languages. His research has been funded by the AHRC, the DFG, the Leverhulme Trust, the British Academy, the Big Lottery Fund and Xprag.de. 

Before coming to Düsseldorf, Romoli was professor of English Linguistics at the University of Bergen in Norway, Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at Ulster University in Belfast, UK, and postdoctoral fellow at the Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its disorders at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.  

Romoli received his PhD from Harvard University in 2012. 

Romoli also works on public outreach and public engagement. Since 2006, he has been part of the organization of the international Science Festival in Rome. From 2012 to 2020, he was the Scientific Director of the Festival.
